Halstead Town manager Mark Benterman said he would ideally have liked to hand out trophies to everyone in his squad as the club held its presentation evening at Rosemary Lane.

The ceremony followed the Humbug’s final Thurlow Nunn League division one home game of the season when they were able to reflect on a tremendous campaign that has seen them in the heart of the battle to gain promotion to the premier division.

With Halstead having had a strong finish to the campaign, winning 15 of 17 league games ahead of tomorrow’s finale at Ely City, Benterman said he wanted to reward his whole squad – but he picked out two for special mention.

The Humbugs boss made a joint presentation of his Manager’s Player-of-the-Season award to Marcus Warren and Charlie Pleace.

He said: “I said to the club that we could have had 16 trophies as everyone has been superb, but I chose Marcus and Charlie because of the impact they have had since joining this year.

“I didn’t know Marcus Warren at all before last summer, but he has come in and scored 14 goals from left-back and left midfield.

“He is so solid and is an eight out of 10 every week, while Charlie also stepped up from the Border League and has been a revelation.

“They have stood out after being unknown quantities at the start of the year.”

Warren was also the recipient of the Milbanks Supporters’ Player-of-the-Year award, while the Players’ Player-of-the-Year honour went to James Murray.
