WIVENHOE brothers Edward and Elliot Appleby battled it out on the international stage at the Rooster Cup, in Paris.

The pair took part in the Advanced Novice Boys section, where more than 100 skaters from 18 countries competed in various events.

Elliot achieved a new personal best in the Advanced Novice Short and Free event, placing fifth in both events and overall.

His short programme included a Level 3 change foot combination spin and Level 3 steps while his free programme included a Level 2 step sequence and a Level 3 flying change foot sit spin.

Edward, in his debut event at Advanced Novice level, placed fourth in both the Short and Free event and overall.

In his short programme, Ed received only one negative GOE for his executed elements that included a double axel jump.

Ed's long programme included a double-axel jump and a double-axel double toe combination jump that received no negative grades of execution, along a level 3 flying change foot spin.

Ed achieved competitive test passes at Level 9 (junior) elements and free.

Elliot, who first competed at Advanced Novice level last month, took part in his first competition as an Advanced Novice skater abroad in Paris.

The Rooster Cup was also the first event at which Ed has competed as an Advanced Novice.

Events at this level require competitors to have two programmes, a short and a free programme.

The duo are now preparing to compete at the Murrayfield Opens in Scotland, this weekend.

Ed competes in the Level 7 events, while Elliot will battle it out in Level 8.

Elliot and Ed, along with their sister Alex, have also learned that they have been selected as Sports Ambassadors for Chelmsford City Council.
