AN unbeaten century from Jack Hebron helped Colchester and East Essex make progress in the Essex League Dukes League Cup.

Opener Hebron struck 109 off 98 balls to help his side to a six-wicket triumph over Gidea Park and Romford.

Gidea Park chose to bat after winning the toss and got off to a solid start, reaching 60 before Greg Stephens dismissed Jamal Francis for 54.

New Kiwi signing Darren Eckford then claimed two further wickets soon after but number five batsman Shawn Findlay proved a thorn in Colchester's side after that.

He finished unbeaten on 99 off 67 deliveries at the end of Gidea Park's innings, which finished on 238 for five after 45 overs.

In reply, Colchester opener Kemsley Robb departed for 27 but Hebron spearheaded their run chase.

Captain Andrew Kennedy contributed with 44 and Joe Austin made 36, as the visitors claimed victory in the 40th over with wickets to spare.

Colchester are next in action on Saturday when they travel to play Chelmsford in another Dukes League Cup match, 1pm start.

The Castle Park side return to Chelmsford on May 7, when they begin their Shepherd Neame Essex League premier division season.
