CHELMSFORD Warriors completed a fine season with victory in the NIHL Division Two South play-off final.

Having overturned a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2 in Wales against Cardiff Fire in the first leg on Saturday, the Warriors won 5-2 in the second leg to secure a 7-4 aggregate win.

The win secured a winning treble for the young Chelmsford players and handed them a clean sweep of trophies this season, having already won the league championship and the National Ice Hockey League Cup.

"When the season begun in September every Chelmsford hockey fan was talking about the Chieftains and what they could achieve in NIHL Division 1," said Chelmsford spokesman Andy Driver.

"Nobody was focusing on a group of young up and coming youngsters who were about to begin their senior careers in NIHL Division 2.

"Now it's not just Chelmsford fans talking about the team of talented youngsters, but hockey fans right across the UK.

"So add the Warriors' treble to the Chieftains' quadruple and that means Chelmsford senior ice hockey has secured a clean sweep of seven out of seven trophies on offer in the NIHL!"

Ollie Baldock and Jake Sylvester got the goals in Cardiff on Saturday night to square the final against the vastly experienced Fire team.

Sylvester scored a brace on Sunday and goals from Baldock, Taylor Ross and Brandon Ayliffe secured the silverware in the second leg.
