Athletics: Newton tops at Bentley
MARK Newton led home 43 other Springfield Striders to win the Great Bentley half-marathon on Sunday.
Newton clocked 2:12:36 to finish more than three minutes ahead of club-mate Gavin Allen.
It was good preparation for Newton ahead of the Tokyo Marathon in three weeks’ time.
James Smith bagged fourth place to secure Striders the men’s team prize.
Polly Bridgman led the ladies home and also took the V35 prize in a time of 1:31:55, and was closely followed by Sam Monk and Vic Curren.
