TONY Halling was many people’s tip to win the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League’s men’s singles title and he did not disappoint.

The 2015 Southend men’s singles champ added the Chelmsford title to his trophy cabinet by beating Rik James 3-1 (9-11 11-3 11-8 11-2) in the final.

Dawn Baldry claimed the ladies’ singles crown for the first time with a 3-1 (11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7) win over Jan Fuller.

Melanie Bonnett and Steve Kerns had been mixed doubles runners-up on four occasions but took the title with a 3-1 (11- 4, 4-11, 13-11, 11-6) success over Linda Attridge and Dave Cole.

Essex top ranked junior Sam Hume, 15, toppled the holder and last year’s men’s singles losing finalist Brandon Crouchman 11-9, 13-11, 11-6 to secure a 3-0 win in the under-21 singles.

Losing men’s singles finalist Rik James won the veterans final by defeating 2015 champion Dave Cole 3-1 (12-10, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8).

The 2016 men’s doubles champions are new pairing Paul Davison and Alex Abbott who beat last year’s champs Brandon Crouchman and Scott Dowsett 3-1 (11-6, 12-10, 11-13, 11-2.
