STANWAY ROVERS continued their fine run of form with another three points at home to Whitton United, thrashing the Suffolk side 4-0.

Despite playing against strong wind in the opening 45 minutes, Angelo Harrop’s side – second in the premier division table - were in no mood to let their current winning streak go out the window.

As it so proved in the opening ten minutes, when the home side took the lead in the fourth minute through Jamie Shaw.

The striker’s bullet header was provided by a delightful cross from Ben Newson, on the right flank, who turned his man with ease and set up the first goal of the afternoon.

Two minutes later, Rovers doubled their lead.

Again, Newson provided the assist with a low, driven cross into the box from the right.

It was despatched by Antonio Sabini, arriving late in the area, whose cool, left-foot finish beat Ross Welton, in the Whitton goal.

Rovers’ dominance in the first ten minutes continued as they added a third, when a free-kick from Craig Hughes rebounded off a Whitton defender to fall into the unguarded net.

Stanway added a fourth through substitute Billy Hunt, after a corner in the 70th minute found its way to the striker and he was ready to pounce on a loose ball after lacklustre defending from Whitton.

Rovers were always in control from start to finish, with Whitton rarely creating chances and failing to test goalkeeper Nick Punter, who had a quiet afternoon.

Elsewhere, FC CLACTON suffered frustration following the postponement of their match at Haverhill Rovers.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC did not have a fixture scheduled for Saturday.
