GREAT Britain swimmer Laura Stephens returned to her roots when she gave a butterfly masterclass to Colchester Swimming Club youngsters.

Wix’s Stephens, who is currently on British Swimming’s Podium Potential World Class programme, talked through her stroke, skills and drills with the young swimmers at Leisure World.

She highlighted the importance of training at Plymouth College, managing her school work, diet, handling nerves, training hours and working hard at every session.

Stephens also gave a Q&A session where she outlined the kind of commitment needed to perform at a high level and raced against three of the club’s leading young butterfly swimmers.

At the end of the session, Stephens presented junior swimmer Georgia Bleck with the Great Britain hat she had worn in Canada.

Bleck was selected as the swimmer Stephens thought had stood out and worked hard during the session.

Junior swimmer Mark Milburn also presented Stephens with a Colchester SC towel, to thank her for her time and encouragement.
