A good-sized field turned out on the cold snap to be greeted by the first frost of the winter season for Playgolf Colchester’s All-day par/bogey.

However, the full greens were still in play, and so it was business as usual.

Steve Loran (10) won division one with a score of plus one.

His round included ten pars and put Matt Barnett (8) in to second place after he returned a level par score of zero.

Barnett carded nine pars and a par-three birdie on the third hole.

Grant Chapman (9) took third place with a score of minus-one and a card of eight pars and a par four bogie on the 13th hole.

Dave Defreitas (14) took division two by storm winning with a score of plus six.

His card included eight pars and a pair of par four birdies on the seventh and 13th holes.

He also got a handicap reduction to 13 next time out.

His nearest rival was Ivan Southernwood (19) with a score of level par.

His card highlights came with five pars.

Lee Whitten (16) took third spot with his score of minus one.

Miguel Ruiz (26) won division three with an outstanding round of plus three.

His card was all the more special as he managed to record an ace on the par three third hole.

His eight-iron hit the middle of the green, checked-right and disappeared in the hole to applause and cheers from his playing partners.

Ruiz now joins the list of Playgolf members on the Boss sponsored hole in one club on the club 2000 system via How Did I Do.

John Chaplin (20) took the runner-up spot on countback from Richard Webb (23), after both carded scores of plus two.

A large field turned out to compete in the seniors Memorial Shield in the lea of storm Barney, which made for some interesting scores.

Even though the wind made the going tough, the good ground and course conditions helped the top two to beat par and go in the hat for a countback decision.

Pater Saye (17) carded a crucial par three birdie on the 16th to beat Alan Barrett (18) with his better back nine score to win the competition.

Third place also needed countback to separate four golfers with Harry Eels (28) taking third place from Colin Green (26), Ron Gilzean (13) and David Ruxton (21).
