BURNHAM Ramblers were left kicking their heels at the weekend and boss Keith Wilson is fearing more weather interruptions.

Ramblers were due to travel to Stansted on Saturday for an Essex Senior League encounter but the match had to be postponed.

Wilson’s side had beaten Newham 3-0 on Wednesday night and had jumped above their weekend hosts on goal difference, but Stansted’s 2-1 win over Bowers and Pitsea on Tuesday night saw them regain their league supremacy.

It was a game that Wilson had targeted as a potential three points.

He said: “I would have preferred to play on Saturday.

“I don’t really want to go there on a Tuesday night.

“And the way the forecast is I don’t know if we will play this weekend.

“It would have been nice to gauge ourselves against a team around us in the division.

“We will train this week and carry on from there.

“It gets very stop-start at this time of the year.

“However, I would be more frustrated if we were flying high and had won six on the bounce.

“Then I would want to keep going and not lose momentum.

“This time of year is difficult but you just have to keep going.

“Hopefully, we can get a few new faces in and we will try every avenue to do that and hopefully freshen things up a little.

“It will be a problem if the match is off at the weekend because two weeks without a game isn’t great.

“It will then be difficult to get the motivation levels up but that is my job and I will do it.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s match against Greenhouse, Wilson is looking for another victory.

He said: “On paper it is a winnable game.

“And if we get the win it will help to push us up the table.

“Hopefully, we will play the game.

“Depending on the conditions their pitch is a great leveller.

“We will have to stick to our task to get the job done and the three points.

“Then on Tuesday we have an Essex Senior Cup match against Enfield 1893.

“It is realistically our only chance of silverware this season so we will be taking it very importantly.

“So it could be a good couple of games for us.”

Looking back on their win at Newham, Wilson was cautious about reading too much into the result.

He said: “The result at Newham was pleasing.

“I was happy that we won the game but it wasn’t a classic.

“They weren’t great and it’s not going to get the neutrals in.

“So we can’t get carried away.”
