IT’S amazing how the power of a win can wipe out bad memories, isn’t it?
FC Clacton have won one game and lost one this week but, as I write this after our 2-0 victory over Brantham Athletic, all seems well with the world again and our 4-2 defeat by Thetford on Saturday seems a million miles away.
By all accounts, Saturday was a terrible defeat against a poor Thetford side and was also our second consecutive loss.
So Tuesday, against Brantham, who were flying high, was a real test of our ‘bouncebackability’.
The players responded very well and I’m sure David Coyle will be satisfied by the way his team controlled the game, kept a clean sheet, really didn’t give Brantham a sniff and could have won by more than two goals.
Goals from Adam Daniels and a debut strike from Steve Eaton, lending a helping hand between his Holland FC duties, propelled us back into the division’s top six with a quarter of the season gone. It also makes us Brantham’s bogey team as we completed the double over them for the second season in a row.
Next up is an FA Vase trip to Newbury Forest on Saturday.
We don’t know much about the opposition, except that they play at a lower level, but, as we all know in cup competitions, that means nothing.
It’s definitely a chance to progress further, though, and if the lads can perform like they did on Tuesday then hopefully Scooter (Steve Bugg) will be bringing you a cheery update next week!
There is also a small piece of history at the Bowl on Saturday as our under-21 side play their first-ever home game, having started the season on the road.
Ian Scott’s team have started impressively and are unbeaten so far, sitting in second spot in the league.
Kick-off is at 2.30pm on Saturday, so if you’re not going to a game this weekend then why not pop along to see some future Seasiders in action?
Good luck to all the Clacton sides in action this weekend!
