With one game left to play Halstead Courtauld Bowls Club C team’s dreams of North West Essex League promotion are still within reach.

Despite a defeat for the C team at Tiptree, a good start to this year’s campaign sees them still in second spot in the division C table.

The A team met the B team in the club derby in division A, with the A team coming out victors.

Colin Tuxworth, John Collyer and John Ovel lost 15-13 to Eric Marson, Ray Joslin and Geoff Hughes, while Bob Tuck, Adrian Smart and Russel Harmour beat Terry Bocking, Tony Jones and Gerry Cook 22-13.

Pat Ashcroft, Clive Cracknell and Brain Chadwick beat Mike Bristow, Ron Guthrie and Roy Clements in a thriller that ended 17-16.

This resulted in a 52-44 shot victory for the A team, who took six points from the clash.

Again with one game left to play, the A team’s result sees them looking to end the season in fourth place, however, the B team are set for relegation.

Meanwhile, Halstead ladies held their annual Gala Day.

Despite the dull weather, 12 teams took part and enjoyed a day of friendly bowls competition.

Tiptree Jobserve were crowned the winners, with the team from Cavendish as runners-up.

At Clacton’s Gala Day, the Halstead triple of Marion Smith, Becky Simmonds, and Joan Howlett bowled very well to reach the final, but narrowly missed out on the title to a measure on the last end.

In the Ladies North West Essex League, Courtauld faced Castle Hedingham in their penultimate game of the season.

Janet Crisp, Tess Pulfer and Betty Burrell travelled away and won by five shots, however, Jean Kenderick, Ros Carr and Sheila Braithwaite lost by five at home, which saw a draw as the end result.
