STOKE by Nayland Golf Club’s Lesley Garnett has reached the Essex Ladies’ County Golf Association Knockout competition quarter-finals.

She beat players at Five Lakes, Boyce Hill and Langdon Hills, along with an Essex junior player on Stoke by Nayland’s Constable Course.

Garnett has been successful in the silver division, which is for players with handicap between 14-24 and started with 64 competitors.

Nineteen Stoke by Nayland ladies contested the Ladies Open, with 96 players from 18 clubs taking part.

The winners were Jane Monk, Lynn Lambert, Lesley Ellis and Marcella Tuttle from Newmarket, with 84 points.

It was a long day, with some teams taking more than five hours to play 18 holes but this did not seem to affect the players’ spirits.

Meanwhile, Margaret Bentley secured a magnificent hole-in-one on the third Gainsborough course, in the ladies’ medal competition.
