Burnham on Crouch’s Silver ladies team have battled in some tough encounters.

Last Wednesday they entertained Channels and there was some trepidation before the game as everyone knew these would be tough, closely fought matches, and so it turned out to be.

Viv Locke’s game went up the 19th before she won, Jean Bailey and Liz Clark won on the 17th, Avis Greenway won on the 15th and Sue Frost was unlucky to lose on the 17th.

On Saturday, the Silver team were in action again away against tough opponents on a difficult course, Cannon’s Brook.

However, keen to continue to press for a place in the next round, Burnham were again victorious, winning four of the five matches, with wins for Bailey, Frost, Greenaway and Clark.

They now have just one match to play against The Warren, away on July 6.

The Ladies’ Bronze team have now had confirmation that, having topped their group, they are through to the knockout stages and will play Forrester Park at Stoke by Nayland, also on July 6.

The result of the men’s section of the President’s Trophy played on Saturday was a win for Nick Price on 41 points and Ivan Milburn second with 40.

Thirty-eight ladies played in the President’s Trophy last Thursday and Saturday.

The good sunny weather brought the best out in many players, with good scores achieved by a good percentage of the field, the top three coming from the Thursday players.

The cadets section took part in the President’s Trophy on Saturday and was won by Mackenzie Maberley with 34. Oliver Readon was second with 33, which included a near birdie opportunity on the eighth, having used a five iron off the new competition tee.

The monthly supper match was played on Friday evening, all players played off the red tees.

On Monday, the veterans ended their losing run of away matches with an excellent 4½-3½ win at Braintree.
