IN hot and humid conditions more akin to those of southern Spain, 37 Five Lakes seniors contested the Seniors’ Cup.

The stableford competition was played from the yellow tees on the Lakes Course.

Greens were lightning fast and with approaches of unpredictable response, players needed to judge their chipping speeds carefully to prevent those long putts back to the hole.

Over half of the field returned scores of 30 points and above but the winner, 18 handicapper seniors’ captain Richard Taylor, trumped that with a bag of 40 points and a merited handicap cut. Peter Ivey held second place with a sub-par 38 points.

The top results of the Seniors Cup: 1 Richard Taylor 40 pts, 2 Peter Ivey 38 pts, 3 Barry Pearson 37 pts ocb, 4 Barry Turner 37 pts ocb, 5 David Barbour 37 pts, 6 Ken Laight 35 pts ocb, 7 Tony Tyler 35pts.

Nearest the Pin Competition: Peter Gee at 11th Hole, Ken Laight at 15th Hole (2nd Shot).
