Tom Joyner has his sights set firmly on securing the major title in world karting that has eluded him.

The 23-year-old ace from Braintree has lifted the British national title and was CIK-FIA KF Class World Champion in 2013, but the European crown of kart racing’s highest-rated level is one that he is desperate to add to his impressive list of achievements.

And having started the 2015 season strongly, he is hoping that this year will set the record straight.

Joyner, who works at the Royal Mail delivery office at Braintree, is lying second in the standings after the opening one of this year’s three rounds of the CIK-FIA European KF Championship at Portimao in Portugal.

The level that Joyner races at is widely considered to be the pinnacle of world kart racing and knowing that the majority of the planet’s best drivers are involved in the European Championship is making his desire to lift it even greater.

Joyner, who races for the Swedish Strakka Bhai Tech team, said: “The best I’ve ever achieved in the European championship is fourth so winning this one is a big target.

“I’ve always done well in the World Championship and I’ve won that and the British title, but it’s never all come together in the European and it would be really good to tick that one off. "
