Damp conditions weren’t ideal as members of the Essex Golf and Country Club’s attempt at the Fastest Round Challenge.
A total of 24 Essex golfers were up for the challenge, braving the conditions and an early start in an attempt to get the ball around the County Course as quickly as possible.
The race began when the first ball was struck and each player then strategically moved on to another hole to keep the ball moving, with the last putt falling 36 minutes and 41 seconds after the opening tee shot.
It may not have been a world record but was a great effort and a lot of fun.
Meanwhile, David Wilkinson saw his handicap cut from 18 to 17 after his victory in the second round of the seniors’ Memorial Eclectic.
His 37 points kept him two clear of second-placed Rob Chisholm, who was also nearest the pin on the fifth and edged out third-placed John White on countback.
In the third round, a 42-point return took Bill Attwood to a clear victory as he stayed four ahead of David Lord, who took second on countback from John Manser. Nearest the pin was seniors Captain Norman Stechman.
