THE Warren’s Leslie Wood team got their 2015 campaign off to an excellent start.

Captained by Micky Nunn they secured an emphatic 11-4 home win against a strong Orsett team.

The Warren, fielding three cadets, Bradley Nunn, Sam Kinnane and Johno Mooney, all played their part along with veteran Mick Heiser.

The Warren had a 5-0 lunchtime lead after a clean sweep in the foursomes meaning that The Warren now face Thorpe Hall in the second round, with a valuable home tie.

The Warren’s Norman Plum team, for the second year in succession, went out of the competition in bizarre circumstances.

The Warren won the home leg 2-1 thanks to victories for Dave Lysandrou and Ben Farmer and Phil and Tristan Brown.

However, The Warren lost the away leg 2-1 with the only victors being Dave Effemy and Mike Bedwell. It then meant that the result was down to holes won and these were level, and the deciding factor then according to the rule book is who won the first match, and this was Clacton on Sea.

Back at The Warren, The Masters Medal was won last week by Michael Nunn with a nett 69.

The Warren Remembrance Trophy was also played last week and won by Paul Witham and Craig Abbott, with a score of 38 points.

The Stoke by Nayland fixture was enjoyable, although The Warren lost 6-2.
