The battle to beat relegation at the foot of the Thurlow Nunn League premier division table took another twist as FC CLACTON gave themselves a big lift at the Rush Green Bowl.

There have been many dark days over the winter for David Coyle’s team, but they are suddenly looking at the possibility of fighting their way out of trouble.

The Seasiders hadn’t completed back-to-back wins in the league since September, but they set that record straight with a 4-1 defeat of Fakenham Town to build on their 3-2 win against Mildenhall Town seven days before.

This was a rousing win and made more significant as one of their main rivals in the race to escape the bottom three, WIVENHOE TOWN, lost 1-0 at Felixstowe and Walton United.

At the other end of the table, there was also bad news for STANWAY ROVERS.

Promotion-chasing Rovers continued their stuttering recent form at runaway leaders Norwich United and went down to a 2-1 defeat.

In division one, HALSTEAD TOWN ended a run of five games without a win by beating Leiston Reserves 1-0 at Rosemary Lane, while BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 3-0 at Woodbridge Town.
