HARWICH AND DOVERCOURT 4
GRASSHOPPERS 1
Suffolk Women’s League premier division
HARWICH kept their hopes of claiming second place alive.
They were without Rachel Griffin and daughter Emma Joslin, but had the returning Jess Joslin and veteran Donna Garland available.
Harwich started the stronger, with Fi Wynne making strong runs and opening the scoring after lifting Sophie Southgate’s cross over the Grasshoppers keeper.
The hosts increased their lead before half-time.
Jess Joslin, following in, hit an unstoppable shot from the top of the circle.
The second half was scrappy for a while, with both teams struggling to keep possession.
However, a good passing move from Harwich led to Wynne slamming home her second for 3-0.
Grasshoppers came back into the game and scored when a short corner was deflected into the goal.
This woke Harwich up but, despite working hard, they only added a scrambled goal from Southgate.
This was not the best of performances by Harwich but a win was always on the cards against the depleted Grasshoppers.
Nikki Kudela had the ball in the net three times – only to have all of them ruled out.
Wynne was again Harwich’s best player, with Kudela showing all her old skills.
Tomorrow, the team travel to Christchurch seconds. A win would see them slip into second place, with Ipswich and East Suffolk having clinched the title on Saturday.
