THERE was a rare draw from a remarkable contest, when Harwich Indoor Bowls Club shared the spoils with the Suffolk County Vice-Presidents.

The teams met for a mixed fours friendly and it finished 67-67.

Harwich’s best performance came from Peter Clarke, skipping Colleen Johnson, Billy Mowat and Keith Forsyth.

They took advantage of a good start and held their opposition at bay, winning by seven shots.

Men’s vice-captain Ian Love, playing with Glyn Jones, Ben Vernaven and Peter Martin, also came out winners by five shots.

Captain Michael Reeder, aided by wife Jean, Chris Barker and Carol Harrington, fought a very close game but lost by just two shots.

Club coach George Berry, assisted by wife Linda, George Gilmour and Richard Bareham, kept up with the opposition for the first ten ends.

However, Suffolk upped their game in the second half to take the match by ten shots.

Harwich beat East Bergholt 163-70 in a mixed triples friendly.

The triple skipped by Keith Forsyth, playing with Nan White and Carol Harrington, scored a “hot-shot” in their overwhelming win by 45 shots.

Captain of the day Chris Barker, skipping Jean Reeder and Adam Kadlec, were never troubled in their 21-shot win.

Sandy Mooney’s triple of Flora Dick and Steve Humphrey also won convincingly, by 16 shots.

Skip Mike Ryan, helped by Dianne Jacobs and Martin Dick, finished strongly to win by 14 shots.

While the four rinks were winning well, it was not so easy for George Gilmour’s triple.

Playing with Colleen Johnson and Carol Sutton, they trailed going into the last end.

They then scored four shots to win by two.

Skip Keith Hindlle, supported by wife Jackie and Pat Mitchell, fought a very close match, winning by just one shot.
