MALDON Golf Club’s men’s section battled it out in round eight of their winter league.
Over 50 members took part in the betterball bogey competition, played off three-quarter handicap allowance.
The course was set up to play long in the damp conditions, with the white tees set well back on the day. Despite this, several pairs returned excellent scores, with the winners Tony Davis and Martin Read securing a fine victory by a margin of three clear shots on plus five.
The next four places were determined by countback on plus two.
Second place went to last week’s winners, Alan Brown and Mike Kempen, third were Sam Clark and Darren Mason, fourth Nick Rushen and Ricky Todd and fifth Alan Buckingham and Sam Cummins.
There were two nearest-the-pin prizes up for grabs.
On the par three fifth/14th the winner was Alan Brown, while Sam Clark took the prize on the sixth/15th.
Brown and Kempen’s runner-up spot saw them take the lead in the winter league on 123 points, while Tim Hill and Keith Denny dropped to second place on 115.
