Gill Minns and Jane Madge enjoyed a clear victory in Colchester Golf Club’s ladies foursomes.

Returning a stableford score of 30 points they finished two points clear of the next pairing at the event, played in support of the Poppy Appeal.

With the pair’s half combined handicap being 20 they were always going to be a team to beat, in a field of nearly 70 ladies.

And so it proved, with Liz Duthie and Pip Macauley finishing runners-up with 28 points, from their team handicap 20.

The course is now showing signs of the recent rains and as a result the scores reflected this, with the holes playing long.

Pat Kettle and her partner Claire Croger returned 27 points from their team handicap of 22, to finish third.

Colchester GC’s men continue to contest their Winter Leagues, with 118 members split into eight leagues.

They play a four ball better ball format, with the top two pairs from each league progressing into a knockout.

It is too early in the competition to make any predictions but League One’s Dean Hughes and Julian Munson are showing form, having won all four of their matches.

Paul Nunny and Mark Culley are unbeaten in three matches in League Two, with Lionel Keightley and Keith Newman matching them in League Eight.

Chris Doyle and Andrew Patrick have secured three wins out of four in League Three, as have Dave Blackmore and Stuart Watson in League Five.

League Six is somewhat depleted with a pair dropping out but Ian Devenish and Jim Wilkinson have started strongly, with two wins out of two.

Bill Eke and Stuart Read, who are perpetual qualifiers, have secured two out of three wins in League Seven.
