Witham Town have lost a second long-serving defender to work commitments.

Following the departure of full-back Seb Murfet two weeks ago due to a new job, centre-half Brad Stopher is set to be out of the team.

Assistant manager Brad King said work commitments will keep Stopher out of the side for a while, however, he said the management team are working hard to bring in more defensive cover to keep the strength in the squad.

It has been a largely frustrating week for Witham, who bowed out of the FA Trophy on Saturday after conceding a late goal in a 1-0 second qualifying round defeat by Truro City.

And they then saw their fixture backlog increase in the Ryman League premier division as a waterlogged Village Glass Stadium pitch postponed Tuesday’s home game against Hendon.

Witham will be looking to bounce back, though, when they are due to travel to Lewes in the premier division tomorrow and then head to division one north side Brightlingsea Regent in the Ryman League Cup on Tuesday.
