HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Keith Wilson was left frustrated by his side’s defeat against visiting Harlow Town.

Swifts lost their Ryman One North encounter 4-2 at Scraley Road on Tuesday night and Wilson was angered by some of the refereeing decisions.

After a goal-less first half, six goals flew in after the break and saw Swifts reduced to ten men.

It was a different occasion to Saturday’s FA Trophy preliminary round 6-3 success against visiting Herne Bay.

Wilson said: “It was extremely frustrating.

“We’ve gone down to ten men and football is a game of such small margins.

“Billy Hunt hits a cracking shot from 20 yards that hits the underside of the bar and comes out.

“Then they go up the other end and Aaron Gayle gets sent off for a second yellow.

“So from almost being 1-0 up were down to ten men and they score.

“I don’t like blaming the officials, they have a tough enough job as it is but they ruined the game.

“One of their goals was offside, another I am told was hand ball and one we gave the ball away.

“There was only one late tackle in the game and that was in the 90th minute.

“I think there were ten cards shown in that game.

“If we had 11 players on the pitch then I don’t think we would have lost that game.

“But it was a great effort and against a side like that with ten men we showed real determination.

“I can’t be too disappointed with the performance, we will take the positives and move on.”

It was a bad start to the second half for Swifts.

However, Wilson was delighted with his side’s six-shooting FA Trophy performance against Herne Bay at Scraley Road.

Joe Pearman hit a hat-trick in the victory which sets up an away tie in the next round against South Park.

Wilson said: “It was a good day all round on Saturday. The players put in a really good performance. And the fans were brilliant as well, they were singing all afternoon.

“Financially, as well, progress into the next round helps the club out.”
