Sanchez Watt is hoping to hit the goal trail for Colchester United after hitting the net for the first time in nearly eight months.

Watt netted the U’s opener in their impressive 2-0 triumph at Leyton Orient, last weekend.

It was the 23-year-old’s first goal since he scored in Colchester’s 4-2 win at Carlisle United, last January.

And after returning from injury to boost the U’s in their last three games, Watt is hoping that there are more to come.

Watt said: “I just need game time - I’m just going to take every chance I get and help the team win.

“That’s what I came here to do.

“My goal (against Leyton Orient) was my first shot since I came back from injury.

“It was good to get a run on someone and I just wanted that one-v-one chance with the keeper.

“I felt confident about tucking it in and it was a boost to the team - we worked hard for it.

“I got a goal and an assist and I’m playing with confidence, as the team are.

“We’d been unlucky in previous games but against Leyton Orient, we showed that we can graft.”

Watt felt Colchester were rewarded for their bravery in winning at Brisbane Road, after playing with ten men for more than half of the game.

Skipper Magnus Okuonghae’s red card for a foul on former U’s team-mate David Mooney left Colchester with a numerical disadvantage.

But they remained positive and scored twice in the second half, to claim their first win of the season.

“It was a difficult game and they matched us up at the start,” said the former Arsenal youngster.

“The sending off changed the game and we just stuck together.

“We got in at half-time and we changed tactics a bit, because we wanted to go for the win.

“I’m glad that we did that - we got two goals and a clean sheet.

“It’s the same thing really, you’re just missing one player and we had one player less in midfield.”

Colchester are now hoping to follow up their victory at Leyton Orient by claiming three points against Sheffield United, tomorrow night.

Watt added: “We’re going to rest up and prepare well and our confidence is high.

“We’ll go out and attack as a team.

“We hope the results we’ve had will be the springboard to better things.

“We’ve got two clean sheets and we’ll take the positives from that and try and move up the table.”
