CLACTON Cricket Club vice-chairman Gary Kirk hailed the club’s players after they sealed the Two Counties Championship division four title.

The Seasiders secured promotion thanks to a 42-run win over Tuddenham, at Vista Road.

The 17 points they gained were enough to secure top spot, with rain putting paid to second-placed East Bergholt’s fixture over the Bank Holiday weekend.

It has proved a successful first season in the Two Counties Championship for Clacton, following their decision to drop down from the East Anglian Premier League earlier this year.

Kirk said: “I’m very proud of the team, its players and the way they have all approached this season – they all deserve so much credit.

“This team has a fantastic spirit, a togetherness that’s the best that I’ve seen in a Clacton shirt.

“The club made a hard decision to pull away from the Premier League, rather concentrating on building a stronger better club.

“The club has drawn up a plan that will ensure that we continue to concentrate on local people, providing a cricket opportunity for all to enjoy.”

Clacton travel to play Wivenhoe seconds on Saturday, 1pm start.
