Braintree Town’s play-off hopes are now out of their hands.

The Iron secured a 1-1 Skrill Premier draw at Barnet thanks to skipper Kenny Davies second-half penalty.

The Iron now have to beat Grimbsy on Saturday but they also need Halifax and Gateshead to lose.

Braintree manager Alan Devonshire said: “We need a bit of a miracle but you never know miracles happen.

“For us to be in this position is a miracle, so let’s go to the last day and have a go.

“I was disappointed with the first half.

“I just felt we were flat, a few boys weren’t at it and they’ve been at it with all these big games and I was disappointed with them.

“But second half it was more like us, we did a lot better and created a few chances, so we move on.”

Early pressure came from Barnet with Jake Hyde going close after two minutes.

The home side were a whisker away from taking the lead on four minutes when Curtis Weston’s shot just went wide of the upright.

On 19 minutes, Braintree survived when a cross from Elliot Johnson hit the inside of the post and rebounded straight back into the hands of Hamann.

On 30 minutes, Dean Wells brought out a save from Barnet keeper Graham Stack with a looping header.

But it was the home side that took the lead on 40 minutes.

Keanu Marsh-Brown hit a screaming shot from outside the box into the top left corner of the goal.

After the break, the Iron came back into the game.

Barnet’s David Stephens fouled Kenny Davies in the area and the referee pointed to the spot.

Davies got up and fired the penalty into the back of the net on 57 minutes.

Braintree substitute Jordan Cox fired a fierce shot just wide on 65 minutes.

And James Mulley had a great chance on 90 minutes but Stack spread himself well to stop the effort.
