WITHAM Town kept the pressure on leaders VCD Athletic with a win against visiting Brentwood Town.

Witham secured a 1-0 Ryman League division one north victory to keep them two points behind VCD with a game in hand.

Tom Wraight scored in the first minute to give the home side the lead.

And Witham managed to hold on to this slender lead for the rest of the match to claim the three points.

But Athletic also had a winning touch with an emphatic 6-1 victory against Burnham Ramblers.

But it was the Ramblers that took the lead at Leslie Field with Billy Hunt giving them the lead on six minutes.

But three goals in five minutes put paid to the home side’s challenge.

Michael Power equalised on 12 minutes, Sherwin Stanley gave them the lead two minutes later and Nick Reeves added a third on 17 minutes.

James Duckworth made it 4-1 on 21 minutes and two late goals at the end of the second half from Albert Brayley and Sam Gent wrapped up the win.

Maldon and Tiptree fell to a 1-0 defeat at Chatham Town.

A Matt Solly penalty on 53 minutes proved to be the decider.

Heybridge Swifts kept their play-off challenge on course with a 3-1 win at Romford.

The visitors held a 1-0 lead at half-time thanks to a Michael Toner goal on ten minutes.

However, Romford equalised through Nick Reynolds on 56 minutes.

But Swifts regained the lead three minutes later through Ben Newson.

And Newson made the game safe with his second on 83 minutes.

It got worse for Romford in the dying minutes when they had both Danny Jones and Matt Toms sent off.
