Witahm Town’s fixture backlog finally caught up with them as their title-winning Essex Senior League campaign ended in a rare defeat.
A 1-0 defeat by Burnham Ramblers ensured Garry Kimble’s team, who had wrapped up the title two weeks earlier, were unable to become the first Witham side to lose just one league game in a whole season.
The game was Town’s fourth in seven days and they will now have to raise themselves again to face the conclusion of their Essex Senior League Cup semi-final at Barking on Tuesday.
Witham will take a 2-1 lead into the second leg.
