DEFENDER Josh Hill feels Braintree Town's players have shown they have the big-match temperament in recent weeks to prove they can handle the play-off pressure they are about to face.

The Iron have made a late surge with a run of form that has seen them win five and draw one of their final six Vanarama National League South games and book their place in the top seven places.

The latest of those was a win against Gloucester City at home on Saturday, when Hill hit home a delightful half-volley into the top corner from 20 yards in the Iron's 3-0 victory.

They now head to Hemel Hempstead Town for the first of those play-off tests on Wednesday and the way they finished the regular campaign has given Hill confidence for the challenges to come.

“It was all about getting the three points on the final day," he said.

“When I came in six weeks ago, had you said to us that we’d have it in our own hands heading into the final game then I think we’d have taken it, but we still had to do it.

“It was good that we got a comfortable win to settle the nerves and that's showed that we can play in the big games.

“We showed it at Truro and then again against Gloucester and we’ve got good momentum heading into the play-offs.

“That’s so important.

“Keeping clean sheets is as well – especially as a defender – and that’s three out of the last six now so that’s very pleasing.

“Going into those play-offs, we know we’re always going to be in it if we don’t concede.

“It’s very positive for us."
