MANAGER Brad Quinton has hailed the impact that has been made this year in Braintree Town's team by newly-named Supporters' Player-of-the-Season Billy Crook.

Crook was named as the fans' pick ahead of the Iron's 3-0 win against Gloucester City on the final day of the Vanarama National League South season.

The 27-year-old was one of the first players to join Quinton after he became boss last summer, heading over with him from former club Enfield Town and has gone on to be a key member of Braintree's side this year.

He has made 43 appearances in all competitions - the highest out of anyone in the squad - and scored ten goals.

And having seen his influential midfielder help the team get the points they needed to secure their place in the end-of-season play-offs - that start with a tie for Braintree at Hemel Hempstead Town tonight - on the final day, boss Quinton was quick to sing Crook's praises.

“Billy Crook – what a player he is," said Quinton.

“He was Players’ Player (of the year) with me at Enfield last year and now Supporters’ Player of the Year at Braintree this year.

“When he joined me at Enfield, he never used to score goals, but year on year, he is building.

“He is so humble and just wants to improve.

“Billy is a tremendous player and shows that week-in week-out.

“He always has a smile on his face and is such a humble person; there is not a bad bone in him and he has delivered again this year.

“The supporters see that and he’s delivered in double figures in terms of goals and if you have a midfielder doing that then you will have a great asset.

“He’s certainly someone I will be looking to take into the National League with me when we get promoted."

There was also an award ahead of the Gloucester City game for Ben Wyatt, who was named as Twitter Player-of-the-Year after voting by fans on the social media platform.
