While Braintree Town were disappointed only to take a point from their Vanarama National League South clash with Oxford City, they know it has kept their play-off destiny in their own hands.

Assistant manager Andy Porter said it was frustrating that the Iron couldn’t extend their winning run to a fifth game as they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Oxford.

However, Braintree have crucially stayed in the top seven places with one game to go – against Gloucester City at home on Saturday - and the point they earned has kept them one clear of eighth-placed St Albans City.

Porter said: “We were obviously disappointed with the result but it was a point that has put us in a good position going into Saturday.

“We know what we have to do now – get three points and we’ll be in the play-offs.

“It wasn’t the best game for the neutral against Oxford and there were only a couple of chances for each side, but I felt our boys looked a bit leggy from Saturday.

“It was a long trip that we had to Truro.

“We got a good result there, but we felt we had enough in the starting 11 to get the three points against Oxford City.

“It wasn’t to be, but we’ll have a good look at it on Thursday in training and we’ll get a good session in so we can go again on Saturday.

“Maybe there will be one or two changes, but we’ll have to see.”
