WITHAM Town are setting their sights on an eye-catching double as they prepare to welcome champions-elect AFC Hornchurch to the Village Glass Stadium.

The sides are set to meet in a Bostik League division north clash on Saturday where the hosts will be aiming to repeat the victory they achieved at The Stadium on November 4.

Correy Davidson's last-gasp goal gave them a dramatic 1-0 victory and a similarly positive result would continue an impressive few weeks for Adam Flint's side.

They have won three of their last four and made it back-to-back successes by securing a 1-0 victory at Soham Town Rangers on Saturday.

"It was a great win and very pleasing," said Flint.

"We were a bit light heading into the match, with four regular starters missing, and had a couple of young lads in our back four.

"Max Wilson made his first start up front and overall it was a very encouraging performance.

"Soham were in a bit of form themselves but we should have won by more.

"Only their goalkeeper kept the score down and it was no surprise he was man-of-the-match."

Witham will need to produce another strong performance against runaway leaders Hornchurch.

Their opponents have a ten-point lead over second-placed Potters Bar Town and will be crowned champions if they win at the Village Glass Stadium.

"Hornchurch are a very good, strong side and they're going to be deserving winners of our division," added Flint.

"However, hopefully we can make them wait a bit longer before wrapping it up.

"We've already proved we can beat them, though, and our victory there last year was one of the highlights of our season.

"We were bottom of the form guide, having not won for something like 13 games.

"But we dug deep and got an excellent victory thanks to Correy's goal.

"We know we can hurt teams and it's down to us to stand up and be counted."

After this weekend, Witham will have five games left, including two more home games next week, against Romford on Tuesday and Brentwood Town on Thursday.

They then go to Haringey Borough on April 21 and Maldon and Tiptree on April 24, before finishing with a home match against Tilbury on April 28.

At the moment they have 53 points and Flint is setting his sights on reaching 60.

"We've still got a lot to play for and our young players will feel they have a point to prove," said the Witham boss.

"Personally, I'd be delighted if we could get to 60 points.

"That would be a decent haul and one more point than we managed last year.

"The league is a lot harder this year, though.

"We're in a strong division and it's good to have a target of 60 points."

Shamido Pedulu is Witham's main injury worry ahead of Saturday's game, having suffered a groin injury in training last Thursday.
