MANAGER Lee Fisher was not prepared to be critical of his young Braintree Town Reserves players after their inexperience allowed Thurlow Nunn League division one points to slip away at March Town United.

The Young Irons had been leading 2-1 heading into the latter stages of their game at March, but Fisher felt their youthfulness showed as they departed from instructions and the hosts took advantage by scoring two late goals for a 3-2 victory.

It meant Braintree missed a chance to break into the division's top four places, but Fisher said he wouldn't criticise his players.

"It was a game where our inexperience showed," he said.

"We said to the lads at half-time to not overplay in the middle of the park because of the conditions and we were getting it out wide at the start of the second half into areas where we could still play football.

"But we seemed to switch off and players started overplaying again.

"We got caught out a couple of times and March made us pay.

"We said to the lads at the end that a lack of experience cost us as we should have been able to see out the game.

"It was unfortunate, but you have to accept that is what you sometimes get with young groups of players.

"We can't fault what this young group has done this year.

"They were so deflated afterwards and we just told them that they can learn from mistakes and put it right in the next game.

"Losing Monday's game was disappointing because we wanted to bounce back quickly but we have a lot coming up.

"We can't be too hard on the lads, but they can take on board what has happened and move forward."

Braintree Reserves missed the chance to return to winning ways on Easter Monday as a waterlogged IronmongeryDirect Stadium pitch saw their home game against Team Bury postponed.

They return to league action with a home game against King's Lynn Town Reserves on Saturday (kick-off 3pm), before hosting Wisbech St Mary in a First Division Knockout Cup semi-final on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
