Braintree Town manager Brad Quinton said he expected make use of the options within his squad as the Iron head to Vanarama National League South play-off rivals St Albans City today .

The Iron are due to head to St Albans for an Easter Monday fixture on the back of a frustrating Good Friday when the weather hit their game against Oxford City at the IronmongeryDirect Stadium.

Heavy rain caused the pitch to become waterlogged and the fixture to be abandoned after 31 minutes of play – when it was still locked at 0-0.

Braintree have had little time to dwell on that frustration, though, and head to St Albans without a couple of key members of their squad and Quinton said he would be making good use of his resources.

He said: “Sometimes something like this could affect your preparations, but we’ve had some tough games recently and we’ll be ready.

“I kept the players out there for a while after Friday’s game was abandoned to get some more running into them and we’ll be ticking over.

“We do lose Billy (Crook) and Luke (Allen) now, though.

“Billy’s suspension is three games and Luke is just one, but they’ll be out for Monday at St Albans.

“There’s nothing we can do about that and we just have to focus on the next games coming up.

“We had a couple of the players on the bench on Friday as we just wanted to look after a few of them.

“I’ve been honest with them and told them that some of them would be rested anyway as we have a busy run coming up.

“It was just precaution going into the St Albans game.

“We have to look after them as much as we can and using the squad is important at this time of the season.

“As you saw with the Oxford game, there will be twists and turns and the fight will go all the way to the end of the season.

“We’re looking forward to it and are prepared for Monday’s game.”
