Braintree Town boss Brad Quinton felt his team's 2-1 Vanarama National League South win at Weston Super Mare was a case of them reaping the rewards for the hard work they have put in recently.

The Iron had to deal with a long midweek trip to Somerset on the back of a tough game at Hampton and Richmond Borough, when they played 60 minutes with ten men, on Saturday and had to come back from falling a goal behind.

However, Quinton felt his players "showed their true mettle" as goals from Luke Allen and Ben Wyatt secured a memorable comeback win and a first away win since November 11 as they moved back up to eighth in the table and two points off the play-off spots.

Quinton said: “It was very enjoyable after such a long trip.

“It’s credit to the boys considering the last two games that we’ve had.

“They have played very well in both of those games and worked very hard.

“To travel all the way to Weston Super Mare on a Tuesday night is tough for anyone but it was very important that we got the three points and the boys did us proud.

“I think the last two to three weeks of hard sessions that we’ve had in training are being rewarded.

“The boys have really showed their true mettle and even when we were one-nil down against Weston Super Mare, the boys looked like they still had more energy.

“When you think of the long way they had to travel on the day and play on top of having played for an hour on Saturday with ten men, they have done very well.

“I’m pleased for them with how they finished.

“It was a sloppy goal for us to give away but the boys worked hard, rolled their sleeves up and scored two good goals."

Braintree's next game will be their home fixture against Oxford City on Good Friday.

The game at the IronmongeryDirect Stadium is due to kick off at 3pm.
