BRAINTREE Town Reserves manager Lee Fisher said it was a special achievement to have their superb form recognised by the Thurlow Nunn League.

The Young Irons' form through December and January earned them the league's bi-monthly performance award and a presentation was made to the team ahead of their division game against Woodbridge Town on Saturday.

Winning five and drawing one of their six outings across the two months earned Braintree the recognition out of all premier and first division sides and Fisher said it was even more of an achievement to become the first reserve side to win the award.

"To get that recognition was really special," he said.

"I believe we're the only reserve side to have won that in the Thurlow Nunn League.

"It's not just division one either, it is the premier division and division one.

"Felixstowe (the premier division leaders) won the first two awards, and it's a massive achievement for our lads to get this.

"But also for us as a club and what we're trying to do as a reserve side.

"It shows that we deserve to be at this level.

"I've seen a lot on social media about reserve teams being in the Thurlow Nunn (League) - well that's rubbish to me.

"We have shown people over the last 18 games that we deserve to be where we are.

"It's good for us as the management of the club that we get that recognition and we were also given another award for the best disciplinary record in November."

As part of the award, Braintree Reserves were able to nominate a local charity to receive a £100 cheque on their behalf.

The club chose Parc Essex to be the recipient and the Young Irons' joint manager Luke Nash also matched that with a £100 donation.

Fisher added: "We discussed who we could give the money to and they are a local charity who do great work with disabled children.

"It's great to give them the recognition and to be able to give something back to the community.

"Luke Nash, from his Legends Sports Bar, also gave £100 to match it as well and it's good to have been able to give something back to help a local charity."
