ROMAN Michael-Percil has told Braintree Town fans that they can expect more from him as he continues to build his fitness.

Following an interrupted start to his time with the Iron, the 22-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur trainee showed fans what he is capable of with two goals in their 5-0 Vanarama National League South win against Hungerford Town last weekend.

As a central striker with Braintree, Michael-Percil admits he is playing in a position that he hasn’t been used to before, however, he insists that there is plenty more to come as he regains full fitness from an ankle injury picked up in pre-season.

He said: “It was very enjoyable against Hungerford, but to be honest, I’m just happy to be back as it has been tough with bring injured.

“It happened quite early in pre-season and it has been a steady and slow process for me to come back, but I’m feeling more confident now. I feel better but I know I can get sharper.

“There is more to come but I feel better than I was a few weeks ago.

“As an attacking player, getting goals like on Saturday is what you want to do and I can take confidence from that.

“Through most of my career, I’ve been played out wide and I’ve been predominantly told that assists are important.

“But now I’m playing more central, Brad has given me licence to roam as well.

“It’s now my role to score goals and I can’t just leave it to others, so to nip in and get two against Hungerford was very good.

“I feel confident playing that role and I was told that was the one that Brad wanted me in when he brought me in.

“With the injury that I’ve had, I haven’t really been playing but based on the last game,it’s not a problem being in that position.”

Braintree are back in FA Cup action on Saturday as they travel to Vanarama National League North side Brackley Town in the third qualifying round and Michael-Percil is looking forward to developing his on-field partnership with fellow striker Phil Roberts.

He added: “I have known Phil for years now and we are good friends off the pitch.

“That always helps when you go on the pitch and it’s something I like.”

Manager Brad Quinton said: “Roman is a very good player and he and Phil Roberts complement each other very well.

“The boys have been working very hard.

“Roman has had a bit of an ankle injury that means it’s been a bit of a stop-start season for him so far but I have a lot of time for the lad.

“I tried getting him when he was at Dulwich (Hamlet) last year but he went out on loan to Met Police but I’m delighted to have him now.

“It’s been frustrating for him with his injury but he was different class against Hungerford.”
