HAVING impressed against one higher-placed Essex side last weekend, Braintree Town will continue their pre-season with a test against another of their Football League neighbours - Colchester United - today.

It has been an encouraging pre-season so far for the Iron, who played well in losing 2-1 to Southend United last week, and assistant manager Andy Porter said the work will go on to keep finalising their squad ahead of the start of the National League South season on August 5.

“I’d say we are where we want to be in our plans,” he said.

“Fitness levels are where we want to see them.

“We have a lot of players who we have brought in and we’ve moulded together the team that we have, but there is still work to be done.

“We have the spine of the side organised with 13 players who we want and there are also a few who are trialling so there will be a few more additions as well.

“We have the group with us, but there could be one or two others who come in from elsewhere.”

The game against Colchester United kicks off at the Ironmongery Direct Stadium at 3pm today (Saturday).
