Hakan Hayrettin is under no illusion about the threat that Dulwich Hamlet pose to Braintree Town’s hopes of progressing into the quarter-finals of this season’s Buildbase FA Trophy.

However, the Iron boss knows the key to success will be how his own players prepare and conduct themselves.

Braintree host the Ryman League premier division side in the third round at the Ironmongery Direct Stadium tomorow (kick-off 3pm) knowing that they can’t afford to take their guests lightly in any way.

The hosts sit two leagues higher in the footballing pyramid, but Hayrettin knows the threat that Dulwich pose.

Hamlet are well-supported, with one of the biggest average attendances in the Ryman League and the Iron boss knows Dulwich manager Gavin Rose will set his team up to attack.

He said: “They train three mornings a week so there are near enough full-time.

“They are a good club with a good manager and they try to get the ball down and play.

“So the biggest mistake we can make is to take them lightly in any way.

“There is a potential banana skin for us and you will come unstuck if you take any team lightly.

“We can’t afford that as they are a good team.”

Braintree have already seen off lower-league opposition - East Thurrock United - to reach the third round and dispatched Eastbourne Borough to make FA Cup progress earlier in the season, so know what it takes to dodge potential banana skins under Hayrettin’s guidance.

But Dulwich have had to battle past Lowestoft Town, Chesham United, Winchester City, Royston and Whitehawk to take their place in the last 16 and Hayrettin knows they work a dangerous system.

He added: “I have seen them play and know what a decent outfit they are.

“They play a system that gives them room for players out wide to attack and they have someone in the hole (behind the strikers) who is very lively.

“However, as I always say, it isn’t about them, it is all about us.

“We have to conduct ourselves right to make sure it’s our name that goes into the draw for the next round.”

Braintree head into the last-16 tie having not seen action since their National League draw at Forest Green Rovers two weeks ago.

Their game last weekend was postponed due to Lincoln City’s FA Cup fourth round involvement and while Hayrettin was unable to arrange a friendly fixture, he said he had been keeping his players’ minds in the right place.

“We have just tried to stay as focused as possible as that’s all we can do,” he added.

“We had an in-house game to keep the fitness levels up so I’m not really concerned about any rustiness, but my job is to keep that focus there.”
