HAKAN Hayrettin says he won’t allow any negativity to seep in at Braintree Town – even if they have setbacks like the one against Chester last weekend.

A poor second half saw the Iron lose 2-1, but an upbeat Hayrettin steeled his troops to come back and secure an important three Vanarama National League points when they beat Sutton United 1-0 on Tuesday.

They now take a break for back-to-back cup games – at East Thurrock United in the FA Trophy on Saturday and at Chelmsford City in the Essex Senior Cup quarter-finals on Monday – and Hayrettin will continue to beat a positive drum.

He said: “To get to 30 points is a fantastic psychological boost for the club.

“When we first came together we were second from bottom.

“If you’re not buoyant then people will pick up on that and negativity spreads like a cancer.

“Once it spreads, it’s hard to cut it out.

“I said when I came in that I would be the same person if we won or lost because I know how difficult it is.

“Particularly at this (National League) level because I believe it’s the toughest league to win.

“So nothing changes from my point of view.

“I’m like a boxer or a marathon runner and I’m steading myself for the long run.

“All I can do is keep everyone on their toes and remind them of what’s required and how we’re going to do it.

“All the things I’ve learned over the years from my peers.

“I do things my way and the boys are responding.”

Hayrettin has made good use of the loan market in recent weeks, with the additions of Kris Twardek and Kyron Farrell from Millwall and with Ebou Adams on loan from Norwich City, it is a system that the Iron boss is happy to make use of at the present time.

He added: “I probably use the loan market more than anyone in this league at the moment because we need it.

“Sometimes your loan players can come and go and it leaves you in a bit of a hole but we’ve had people come in.

“The reason people loan you players is because they want them to make mistakes for you and get better and hopefully get better while playing for you.

“If we can provide that tool for other teams and also improve our team as well then we’ll do that.

“I’ve been busy with that.

“We’re lucky that we have a good relationship with Millwall and I’ve brought in two from there.

“We’ll use it again as the club have been fantastic with me.

“They did say that the Sim (Akinola) money is at my disposal.”

Hayrettin has also added midfielder Alex Henshall to his squad this week after signing the 22-year-old from Margate and former Colchester United youth teamer Jordan Sanderson from Haringey and Waltham.
