Manager Hakan Hayrettin knows Braintree Town have “nothing to lose” when they make club history in the FA Cup at Millwall on Sunday.

It is the first time in their history that the Iron have been in the second round proper of the famous competition and they face what looks on paper a daunting task at the New Den.

Millwall are ninth in League One, having won eight and drawn one of their last 11 games and have home advantage in South London, but Hayrettin believes his team shouldn’t travel with any fear.

He said: “We will go there first and foremost to give a good account of ourselves as we have nothing to lose.

“As long as we don’t embarrass ourselves, we’ll be fine.

“Their manager (Neil Harris) is a personal friend of mine who I know very well and we know how they will approach the game and we just have to match it.

“Let’s enjoy the occasion and if we can do that then I’m sure the boys will put on a show for our fans who are coming with us.

“We have to stay positive as we always are and being under dogs doesn’t bother me one bit.

“Millwall are the higher league club and the pressure is all on them.

“All we need to do is just give a good account of ourselves.”

Braintree’s preparations for Sunday’s game at the New Den were hit in midweek when a frosty pitch that postponed their Vanarama National League trip to Boreham Wood.

Hayrettin said he didn’t agree with the decision to call the game off, but insisted that it wouldn’t be a disruption for Sunday’s event.

“I wanted to play (at Boreham Wood),” he said.

“I said that to the referee, but their manager was more concerned about the goal mouths and he didn’t want to play.

“It’s in the lap of the referee.

“I said ‘get it on’ but it came across that they didn’t want to play it for whatever reason.

“I understand health and safety of the players come first and it was only going to get colder, but I felt it was OK.

“So we were left not able to do anything as we couldn’t even have a training session, but I’m confident that it won’t disrupt us for the FA Cup game.”

The call-off means Braintree head into the FA Cup tie on the back of a win after their incredible 5-4 victory at Southport last weekend
