Braintree Town manager Hakan Hayrettin says that it was Oli Muldoon's own decision to cut short his loan spell with the Iron.

Hayrettin and his players are preparing for their FA Cup second round tie at Millwall on Sunday, but one player who won’t be joining them is midfielder Muldoon.

He has headed back to Charlton Athletic from his loan after making 11 appearances and scoring three goals for the Iron, however, Iron Hayrettin said he had tried to persuade the Addicks' youngster to stay longer..

Hayrettin said: “Oli decided that it was best for him to head back to Charlton as he saw an opportunity he couldn’t miss.

“They have a new manager and he wanted to impress him.

“I know the assistant manager there and he felt he should stay with us and we all advised him to stay put get games and impress while training at Charlton, but he decided going back was best for him.

“We wish him all the best and thank him for what he did while with us and it may not be the last we see of him.

“For now, I won’t look to replace him as I feel there are people in our squad like Chez Isaac, Sam Corne and Harry Lee who can play in there and deserve their chance.”
