Monty Patterson will be staying with Braintree Town until the end of 2016 after extending his loan deal with the Iron from Ipswich Town.

The 19,-year-old completed his first month on loan at Braintree Town by playing a pivotal role in their 5-4 Vanarama National League win at Southport last weekend, but that has now been extended until the year end.

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy confirmed the extension as well as a longer loan spell for another Ipswich player, Joe Robinson, at Boston.

“It’s an opportunity for them to get first-team football every week in games that really count,” McCarthy told the Blues' club website.

“That is what Joe and Monty need now.

"They are getting more out of that than playing under-23 football here.”

Patterson is a New Zealand international and scored his first goal for his country in their 1-1 draw against the United States in a friendly in October.

He also became the first player to be involved in a full international while at Braintree Town when he played for the Kiwis in a World Cup Qualifier earlier this month against New Caledonia.

He has so far made four appearances for Braintree and scored in the 7-0 FA Cup first round tie against Eastbourne Borough.
