HAKAN Hayrettin joked that he may have to be under doctor’s orders after an emotional rollercoaster of a game for his Braintree Town side at Southport.

The Iron boss – and the 21 travelling fans among the crowd of 866 – came away jubilant as they claimed three valuable Vanarama National League points.

However, the collective blood pressures must have been soaring as their team put them through the wringer in a nine-goal thriller that they ended up edging 5-4.

Braintree won after taking the lead three times in the game and had to come back from being 3-1 down at one point.

Boss Hayrettin was pleased to see his players battle as they secured three points that leapfrogged them above Southport on goal difference and out of the National League relegation places.

“Watching that game, it felt like I got drunk, sobered up and then got drunk again,” said the Braintree boss.

“I may have to go and see a doctor to get some tablets from him.

“But it’s a result that is a credit to the boys as they’ve been working very hard.

“I’ve been at the club for seven weeks and I felt a lot of emotions there as I couldn’t believe what I was watching at one stage.

“To come to Southport and win is really good.

“I always say that we’re never too high with a win and never too low with failure, but this one was an emotional rollercoaster.

“We got the points in the end, though.

“We scored from some good set pieces and I’m thankful for it.

“We have adapted the way we play as I want us to press, move the ball quickly with tough passing and stuff like that and the players are responding in a positive manner.

“We will get highs and we will get lows, but we just have to keep working hard.

“I said to them that when you’re in a fight you have to keep swinging until you come out the other end.

“That’s what they are doing for me.”
