OLI Muldoon feels Braintree Town need to get on the front foot on the Road to Wembley if they want to progress their FA Cup dreams into the first round.

The Iron are due to host fellow Vanarama National League side Bromley in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup at the Ironmongery Direct Stadium tomorrow.

It will be their first taste of action in the competition this year and Charlton loanee Muldoon feels they need to make a fast start if they don’t want it to be over too quickly.

Out of the 15 games they have played so far this season, Braintree have scored first just twice - against Aldershot and AFC Barrow - and Muldoon thinks they need to be making better starts.

The 22-year-old midfielder has impressed in the three games he has played in since being brought in on a 28-day loan from the Addicks by Iron boss Hakan Hayrettin and felt they would have got a greater reward than the 1-1 draw they did against York City last weekend if they had had a better start.

“I think if we’d started better, we definitely would have got more from the game against York,” he said.

“We should have started on the front foot more, but we didn’t do that.

“I think it came down to that first half and if we’d been on it then, we could have won four or five-one.

“We didn’t do enough in the first half to get that.

“There is enough here to get up the table - that’s definitely the case.

“We just need to be a bit cleverer in the final third and put chances away.

“Make sure we get one or two goals ahead to take command and play the game how we want to play it.

“We need to take the lead and demand the game how we want to.

“We’re not low on confidence at all as the boys know we have enough ability in the team to get out of the bottom four.

“I went to Dagenham last year and they were in a similar position then at the bottom.

“They were low on confidence and it wasn’t enough to get out in the end, but it’s still early days here and by Christmas, I think Braintree will be up the table.

“However, we need to perform over the 90 minutes rather than just 45.

“If we keep performing over 90 minutes then I think we can definitely get results.

“If we can win the FA Cup game, it will drive us on to the next game and hopefully we can get a little run going.

“The point we took against York has put us in the right direction, then if we can get through in the FA Cup, we can move forward the week after.”
