Hakan Hayrettin is convinced that he has the quality in his Braintree Town squad he needs to get them clear of the National League drop zone.

But the new Iron boss wants his players to start believing in themselves and their ability, starting with tonight’s home game against Boreham Wood.

Hayrettin took charge of his first Braintree game in their 3-0 defeat at Lincoln on Saturday and has seen the quality that is there in the Iron ranks, but he wants his players to show it or admits that changes will have to come.

He said: “There is definitely a lot to work with, but they need to start believing in themselves more.

“It is a clean slate for everyone and it’s down to them. They have a few games to show what they can do. There is loads of quality there but we do need to work on a few things.

“There is enough quality there that I’ve seen, but there is room to manoeuvre and we’ll look to bring one or two in if it’s right for the football club.

“There’s no hidden agenda there. We brought (Jack) Muldoon in on loan from Charlton and we’ll look again because we don’t have the biggest squad and we do have some injuries.

“We have three centre-backs out now and had to put a left-back (Jerome Okimo) in there at Lincoln.

“So that’s something we need to address and we’ll look at the other end as well, but there is no panic and no dramas.

“We will work on things to get it right and I’m looking forward to my first home game.”

The three centre-backs who may be out for tonight’s visit of Boreham Wood are Ian Gayle, who didn’t make the trip to Lincoln, and Jon Ashton and Jake Goodman, who came off in the opening 36 minutes at Sincil Bank.

“One was a calf and one was a hamstring,” added Hayrettin.

“Jon Ashton felt his calf and it was Jake Goodman’s hamstring so I’ll speak to the physio and we’ll check ahead of the Boreham Wood game.”

The game against Boreham Wood tonight could see the return of two former Iron favourites.

Last year's player-of-the-year Matt Paine and ex-captain Kenny Davis are due to come back to face their former club after signing for Boreham Wood last summer.
