New manager Haka Hayrettin has confirmed that an offer has been made for Braintree forward Simeon Akinola.

The Times believes that the bid has come from Lincoln City – who beat Braintree 3-0 in the Vanarama National League yesterday – but is well below the Iron’s current valuation of their player.

The pacey 24-year-old, who joined Braintree from Harrow Borough two years ago, is one of just four Iron squad members who were with the club last year and his current deal is due to run out at the end of this season.

Akinola was subject of what is thought to be a £75,000 offer from Forest Green Rovers last season that was rejected at the time, but Hayrettin said Braintree would be looking at the bid on the table this time.

He said: “I know an offer has been made and if it’s the right thing for Braintree Town Football Club to accept a bid then that’s fine, but if not then we’ll move on.

“As long as he’s with us, though, I expect him to work hard and do the right things.

“But if it’s the right time for him to go, then no problem.”
