Chairman Lee Harding has said there has been plenty of interest shown in the vacant Braintree Town manager's position in the aftermath of the departure of Jamie Day.

Day left his position as first-team manager in the aftermath of Saturday's 1-0 Vanarama National League defeat by Forest Green Rovers and the club's board of directors don't want a protracted search period for the new boss.

In the 24 hours following Day's departure - which the club said was by "mutual consent" - Harding said he had already taken a number of calls from parties interested in taking the Iron forward.

And the chairman added that they were hoping to move quickly in making a fresh appointment, preferably in time for next weekend's trip to Lincoln City.

Harding said: "We've had a lot of interest already and are looking at things now.

"It's looking like we'll be talking to people over the next 48 hours or so and if we can agree terms then it would be nice to think we could have someone in place ahead of our next game.

"So we're hoping to move quickly and it would be nice to have someone helping us prepare for the visit to Lincoln.

"We're very keen to hit the ground running."

Harding said he expected changes to follow within the Iron's squad as the new manager looked to put his stamp on the team.

"I know there will probably be changes, but that's what we need - a fresh approach," added the chairman.

"We don't have bad players at the club and we have seen some good performances from most of them, but we have not seen enough consistent team performances where everyone has put in a shift and we've got what we deserved out of games.

"I think the new man will say that he wants to wipe the slate clean and there may be changes made.

"The lack of a transfer window in place means there is room to manoeuvre and it will be up to the new man to decide."
